ODG163-OUI004 : MACONDO / Macondo Trio

ODG163-OUI004 : MACONDO / Macondo Trio

Macondo trio is the union of Beninese drummer Angelo Moustapha, accomplice of Philip Catherine, Lionel Loueke, winner of numerous awards (best drummer in Africa, 2017; Talent d'Afrique, 2021) and Belgian saxophonist Sylvain Debaisieux, essential player in the jazz and improvised music in Belgium (Stéphane Galland, Pentadox, Lynn Cassiers, Ghalia Benali).

For this trio formula, they added the talented Italian double bassist Federico Stocchi (Toots Thielemans Awards 2018).

The sharing and richness of their respective musical journeys created immediate emulation, and their ability to listen and adapt quickly led to a strong musical connection. They joyfully and naturally take the audience into their world rich in polyrhythm and melodious stories.

Inspired by African hymns or trips to Europe, the melodies are built on cyclical and captivating bass lines. The listener is carried away by the flow and energetic sound of the trio, engrossed in repetitive patterns and confusing grooves. They share voices, exchange high-level solos and improvisations, always in a spirit of dialogue and in communion with the public.

ODG162 : Lark Wool / Blurs In The Margin

Cover art by Jack Ison

ODG162 : Lark Wool / Blurs In The Margin

Lark Wool  (see also his previous album ODG033) "Blurs In The Margin" is a contemporary digital palette and common electronic instrumentation conjuring and forging  a hybrid mix of "The Otherworldy" with "The Traditional".

The 6 tracks conjugue an impeccable sense of equilibrium and a crafted balance between the instruments. The music is sometime paisible but at times brings forces with subtle drumming and percussions.

Lark Wool's music is maybe a reminder of many atmospheric / cinematic genres but his approach of building track is one of his own which succeeds in a beautiful and orgasmic album!

Listen with earphones for a total enlightenment!
