OPN021 : Domenico Solazzo's PaNoPTiCoN / Live at D.N.A.
Another summer without PaNoPTiCoN (see here) is not a summer! 10 new volumes to discover. This is indeed the return of the supergroup fronted by Domenico Solazzo and the majority of the best Belgian post-rock and jazz musicians (more than 60!) in different combinations improvising in various Belgian places. So here you are with 10 new releases in a few weeks! Relax and enjoy!

'Las nubes' (The clouds) Is a Mexico based psychedelic rock, jazz and fusion project that originaly started has a free improvisation jazz group iniciated by mexican Vibraphonist and composer Miguel Alzerreka (see OUI037) whose in his spirit of creativity, ingenuity and mezmerizing vibraphone sound, the later and current project- 'Las nubes', was born. This group used to be a meeting point between varias musicians who came and went. One of this musicians is japanese drummer Reona Sugimoto whose versatility and sensitivity had made her a crucial part of the projects sound. Along with Chiapas born trumpeteer Liliana Ramos who adds the psychadelic touch and free spirit improvisation, Mexico based guitarist David Pang whose musical language and depths on the guitar came as a last yet much needed adition to the groups character, and lastly the traveling bass player, composer and producer Or Scharovsky who had taken the groups spirit, ideas and character, inspired by his friends ever changing sound and playing style, he has written five pieces of music to bring it all together, methaphoring their dynamic creation to the clouds above in order for the music to function as a soundtrack to their ever changing journy, thus naming the project- Las nubes.
The group is heavily influenced by free jazz, psychadelic rock and modern fusion. Based around themes and abstract ideas, the songs move between improvisational ideas and consrtucted melodies and parts.
The music of the project, like the clouds, is ever changing, dynamic and can wear many shapes and meanings depending on ones imagination and feeling. The projects journy is one of exploration and sensitivity, of tension and release.
Or Scharovsky is a traveling bass player, composer and producer. He's a graduate of a jazz performance bachelor degree with honors and have played and written music in various styles and genres.
Among his prominent projects as producer and bass player are 'Funkylicious and the timetravelers', Taftir, Argamal and the latest one, Las nubes.
He has also acompanied artists such as Aviv guedg, Frank oz, noa mei and asher levi.
Or is a versatile musician and has a unique playing style influenced by funk, jazz and middle eastern music.
David pang is a Guitarist, Arranger and Composer, Graduate in Jazz Studies from the Universidad Veracruzana. Born on February 5, 1993 in Mexico City, where at the age of 20 he began to participate in the national jazz scene leading his first ensembles, he has taken classes with national and international figures and has performed in the main forums and clubs in the country. Winner, with his project Pang Trio, of the national ensemble award at the Jazztival Michoacan 2019.
Miguel Alzerreka is a mexican vibraphonist and composer based in Chiapas, Mexico. His music is a personal universe with multiple influences such as rock, electronic, classical, jazz and traditional world music.
Reona Sugimoto was born in 1995 in Morioka, Japan. In 2005, she joined the elementary school brass orchestra where she studied and began playing classical percussion at age nine and drums at age ten. Since 2007, she began taking classes with the Japanese percussionist Ayako Itagaki. she was in the brass orchestra for nine years. she competed as a soloist and member of the elementary and middle school orchestras of the Faculty of Education of Iwate University and of the Third High School of Morioka.
In 2014, she began to live in Mexico where he is currently concluding his master's studies at the music faculty of the University of Sciences and Arts of Chiapas. During his career she has received classes with numerous teachers such as Klaas Balijon, Gustavo Nandayapa, Pablo Aguirre and Gibran Andrade.
The experience of living in the south of Mexico brought with it the opportunity to share the stage with different musicians and explore different musical styles that have enriched his professional knowledge.
In 2021 and 2022, she was selected as a finalist in the ensemble category of the First Young Jazz Prize as a member of “Chepuchinango”.She has also participated in groups such as Tritonicos Band, Grunky Beans, Antibalas de las Casas, Las Mojarras Fritas, Alan Fajardo and the travelers and her own group Reona Sugimoto Trío.
In her recording career, he has left his mark with albums such as “Las Mojarras Fritas” (2020) with his homonymous group, “Kokoro” (2021) under his name and “Fata Morgana” (2024) with Aaron Flores
Liliana Abigail Ramos Madrid. Trumpeter originally from San Cristobal de las Casas Chiapas, Mexico. She began her musical career with a degree in jazz and popular music at the University of Sciences and Arts of Chiapas at the age of 17. She has performed on various national and international stages. She has been part of important groups such as "Las Mojarras Fried Band" "La Princesa de Jovel" "Daniel, me esta matando" "La Lengua de las Nubes" "Dr. Native" and "Cocora Jazz project" among many others. Currently, she plays with her project "Liliana Ramos Cuartet".
SimsimBBQ is probably the unique band from Tokyo that creates a mix of a pop version of Japanese traditional music, Okinawan folk, oriental music, nursery rhymes from around the world, folk music from various regions, the Beatles to Canterbury music, progressive rock to noise, and original songs made into pop!
SimsimBBQ is a band with flowing, soothing or intense seven colors high-tone female vocals of seven colours and with all members having solid musicality skills (with no less than 2 permanent or guess members from Wananabani-en) to turn their original songs into a typical Japanese pop style.
About Junko's ethnic instruments:
Sanshin (Okinawan Shamisen): an Okinawan plucked instrument which consists of a snakeskin-covered body, neck and three strings.
Erhu: a Chinese two-stringed bowed musical instrument, more specifically a spike fiddle.

The album was recorded live at a small bar in Nakano -Tokyo by a mix of musicians meeting for the first time and others that already played together in the past.
The result is 4 long tracks mixing the impulses and memories of each musician. Enjoy!
Kenji Ogino (Sax): When a student, played in a big jazz band. In the 90tiess and 2000, mainly active in funky motown bands. For the past ten years has been playing mostly beat jazz and improvisation.
Takayuki Kato (Guitar): Started playing the guitar because he was interested listening to the jazz vinyls collection of his brother and became a professional musician at the age of 19. After a wide range of activities such as disco bands at U.S. military camps and experiences of samba bands with Brazilians, he started his activities as a leader at the age of 28. In addition to his own bands he has played with dozens bands, recorded solo and duo albums under his name and still perform with too many formations to name a few. Playing also a lot overseas such as appearances at "Shibusa Shirazu Orchestra" at the world's largest rock festival 'Glaston Valley' in the United Kingdom and the Mers Jazz Festival.
Daisuke Shindou (Double bass): Started with the guitar in his teens, and turned to electric bass when 18 years old. Currently, as an electric & double bass instructor, he is active in a wide range of activities such as teaching young musicians, session work, band support, and jazz session hosts.
Hiroto Uezi (Drums): Started to play professionally and intensively around 2000 and formed the club jazz band "LOOP SESSION" at a dance club in Aoyama, Tokyo. Worked in sessions, created music, and recorded with British musicians Jean-Paul "Bluey" Maunik (Incognito) and Mark de Clive-Lowe. Provided songs for compilations such as "Blacktronic" on the I Milano cool d:vision label, and was featured on Gilles Perterson's radio program "BBC World Wide". Since around 2010 he’s devoted to experimental music such as noise, ambience, and free jazz. In recent years he released four albums for "Off" record label with Pulse Conversation and SPACE808 mainly based on improvisation.
