OUC043 : Kasra Faridi / Counterpoint

OUC043 : Kasra Faridi / Counterpoint

About Counterpoint Kasra says:

"The piano is the foundation for all the pieces on the EP, I have used techniques such as 8 row notes and cell melodies in composition. The EP consists of 10 tracks, each a series of small pieces featuring two simple melody cells that develop throughout the tracks. However, there is one longer track that connects the melody cells.

I created all the electronic sounds using Csound programming, which allowed me to modify the piano sound into completely new and exciting compositions. Sometimes, the piano sound was just delayed, sometimes I transformed it into non-musical sounds that accompanied the piano. To create a varied and interesting sound, Between major changes and no change in the piano sound, you can listen to pitch changing as counterpoint objects and piano sounds without their attack which created harmony spaces. All the lines in the compositions work cohesively as a texture."

The album was Recorded, mixed and mastered in Tehran 2023.

Kasra Faridi is a professional Classical Pianist and Composer, born in 1992, Tehran, Iran. He began receiving piano lessons at a young age under the supervision of world-renowned instructors such as Houman Dehlavi, Tamara Dolitzeh, Arpineh Israelian and Gagik Babayan. Notably, Kasra performed his very first piano solo when he was only six years old.

Over the years, Kasra has become a sought-after performer at numerous piano soloist festivals, including the prestigious Tehran Soloist Festival, Biennial Festival, Schubert International Music Festival, Youth Festival, Classic to Contemporary Festival and many others.

In addition to his love for music, Kasra is also an accomplished theoretical physicist, having graduated with a master of science in theoretical particle physics from Tehran University. His mathematical background has come in handy in his passion for electronic composition and programming, which he received instructions from and taught by Joachim Heintz. Apart from that, he studied general and classical composition under the supervision of Houman Dehlavi and contemporary composition by Kiawasch Sahebnassagh. Kasra's ability to combine both art and science has allowed him to create a unique sound that is unparalleled in the world of classical contemporary music.

ODG173 : With Skulls Drawn On It! / Is it real?

From Ive aka With Skulls Drawn on It!:

"This EP was born at the exit of a confinement. It comes from the return to social life, it marks this period of transition borrowed from the acclimatisation to the world which comes out of its lethargy, and which still carries the stygmatas of the generalised egocentric withdrawal.
It consists of 4 short, spontaneous, raw and rhythmic pieces that tell a journey along the sea and 2 more noisy pieces with discreet rhythm.
It closes with a long drone, noise, bewitching piece which comes to close without compromise an astonishing journey among the deconfined bodies.
Drone, ambient and minimalist noise meet experimental electronics and industrial music forming a concerto of urban vibrations with contained chaos.
Enjoy!"

Mastering: John Sellekaers

Ive is a self-taught musician, architect by training. I live and work in Brussels.
A collaboration with the Cie Tout Est Mu revealed me as co-composer of the soundtrack of the show "Les Zinsectes".
In 2022, I released a first album, "Float Upside Down", on the Vivarium Recordings label.
In the wake of this, this new EP was released with somewhat different sounds, but still marked by experimentation.
