OUI071 : Puma Dechambre duo / /Pause/

OUI071: Puma Dechambre duo / /Pause/

The two musicians give themselves completely to invite you to finally take the time. They took that time to compose these seven pieces—sensitive, fragile, and powerful at once—together, with four hands and twenty fingers. /Pause/ is: ten days in the studio, an unconditional love of sound, new sonic experiences, an acoustic journey that occasionally ventures into electronic territories, seven different soundscapes, and above all, a willingness to embrace randomness and accidents.

The two friends know each other deeply and leap into the unknown, trusting each other blindly. These seven musical tableaux invite you first to imagine infinitely vast spaces, and then to explore uncharted microcosms.

Nicolas and Clément

Clément Dechambre is in a perpetual search for what moves him. A composer, performer,
and improviser, you can hear him playing saxophone, bass clarinet, flute, synthesizers,
and electronics.
At the age of seven, he discovered the joy of playing an instrument in a small music
school. This was followed by a desire to express himself more freely. Later, he had a
revelation upon discovering improvisation through the lens of jazz music, and eventually,
free improvisation. These explorations led him to dedicate his life to music.

He performs regularly in solo projects or with various ensembles: The Brums, Puma-
Dechambre Duo, Un (solo), Bruits de Souffle, Oootoko, Dinah, and Lewis & The Soul
Caravan. Despite the diversity of these musical styles, a common thread runs through
them: the search for an honest and personal point of view.
Clément also collaborates frequently, contributing to unique performances and studio
projects with artists such as Dan San, Condore, Sharko, Soulmista, Isidore,Kriza,
Performed Matter, Agnès Botty, and many others.

Nicolas Puma began playing the violin at the age of 4, and later switched to the
electric bass, teaching himself at the age of 13.
His love for the double bass emerged after listening to the music of Charles Mingus, which he
discovered at his musician friend Clément Dechambre's (Tenor Sax) house.
He won first prize and the audience prize at the XL-Jazz Contest during the Brussels Jazz Marathon 2015 with the group Four of a Kind ( see ODG037).
In 2024, with his duo "Puma Dechambre Duo," he won first prize in the "Sphère Sonore"
competition, and also secured second prize with Aurélie Charneux's trio (Tropical Tayga).
For him, music knows no boundaries, which drives him to instinctively be part of groups from
completely different musical universes. He currently performs with Puma Dechambre Duo, Aurélie Charneux Trio (Tropical Tayga), Ista Swing, Nena "La Raiz", About that Puma in the Garden, Pavel Puma Gionata Trio, Neige Trio, Fernando Neris Blues Trio, and is a member of L'Œil Kollectif (improvised music).
Free improvisation is a cornerstone of his musical creations, guiding him towards new sonic,
rhythmic, and harmonic textures, beyond traditional paths. His playing style is refined and airy, with a full and powerful sound.
He is also the only maker of organic gut strings for double bass in Belgium, which gives him a unique and personalized sound, as he plays on his own strings.
